Library closed Dec. 24 and 25
All locations of The Seattle Public Library and the book drops at the Central Library will be closed on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Christmas Day Thursday, Dec. 25.
Service interruption in the Library's Online Catalog - Jan. 1
Between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, the Library will be upgrading its electrical power system. During the upgrade, you will be able to search the catalog, but won't be able to log in, place holds, renew items or use other catalog features. The former Library catalog (Horizon Information Portal) will not be available at all. SPL Mobile, access to e-books, free music downloads and many databases and applications also will be unavailable.
Why do I need a username?
You can search for an item in the catalog without registering for a username. But you'll need a username to place holds, renew items, rate and review books, music and movies, and more.
How do I create a username for an adult?
Log in with your Library card number and PIN. Choose a username. Your username will be visible when you add reviews and comments, share lists or take part in other social aspects of the catalog. Watch this video for help.
The best username:
- Is easy to remember
- Doesn't contain personal information such as your last name
After you've registered, you can sign in using either your username or Library card number.
How do I create a username for a child?
For safety and privacy reasons, children 12 and under will be restricted to usernames that include an animal and color, and will have limited access to the social features in the new catalog.
Why does the Library want my email address?
Entering an email address allows the Library to send you messages, such as when your holds are ready for pick-up.
