Computers & Equipment at the Beacon Hill Branch

The Beacon Hill Branch of The Seattle Public Library has a variety of computers and equipment available for the public.

 

28 Public Computers at the Beacon Hill Branch:

  • Computers for access to the Library's online catalog and online databases only
  • Computers for Internet access, with filtered access options
  • Computers equipped with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Express terminals available without reservation for 15 minutes maximum use

You need a permanent Library card to reserve a computer. No Library card? Guest passes are available for a single 30-minute session if you don't qualify for a Library card. Visitors and non-residents can also buy a Library card.

Computer for English Workstation

Practice your English, reading, listening and writing skills using various computer software programs. You can learn to use this and additional ESL learning tools at a free training session. Please telephone the branch at 206-684-4711 to make an appointment.

Adaptive Equipment

  • Computers with XP Magnifier software

Wireless Internet Access

  • Available to users with Wi-Fi enabled laptops and wireless devices
  • Can connect in most areas of the building
  • No hourly or daily user fees
  • Users responsible for configuring own equipment and connecting to network
  • Settings:
    • SSID (Service Set Identifier) or network name = spl-public:
    • Encryption or WEP = disable WEP encryption
    • Mode or Network Type = Infrastructure Mode or Access Point (not ad-hoc)
    • Set TCP/IP properties to "Obtain an IP address automatically" (DHCP)

 

PLEASE NOTE: The wireless Internet service is not secure and is used at the individual's risk. Even if firewalls are running on laptops, it is recommended that sensitive information not be sent through this network.

Copiers & Printers

  • Copier and printer available
  • Pay for print system: requires a Library card or guest pass to set up an account.
    Used for:
    • Printing from computers
    • Copier
    Fees:
    • $.15 per page for printing
    (Use cash or credit card or Paypal account for online payment at https://pay.spl.org/)
    • $.15 per page for a black and white copy (cash only)
    • $1 for a color copy (available at the Central Library)
  • Free printing is available from Library Catalog only

Fax Services

 

Fax services are available to the public at this branch.
The fee for fax services is $1.00 for the first page plus $0.50 for any additional pages. There is no charge for the fax cover sheet.
 
Faxes can only be sent to phone numbers in the United States (no international faxes). Faxes cannot be received for patrons.
