Library closed Dec. 24 and 25

All locations of The Seattle Public Library and the book drops at the Central Library will be closed on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Christmas Day Thursday, Dec. 25.

 

Service interruption in the Library's Online Catalog - Jan. 1

Between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1,  the Library will be upgrading its electrical power system. During the upgrade, you will be able to search the catalog, but won't be able to log in, place holds, renew items or use other catalog features. The former Library catalog (Horizon Information Portal) will not be available at all. SPL Mobile, access to e-books, free music downloads and many databases and applications also will be unavailable.

A Salute to Tim Egan

The Seattle Public Library, Mayor Greg Nickels, and City Council President Nick Licata paid tribute to Seattle author Tim Egan on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006. Egan's "The Worst Hard Time" was named the winner of the 2006 National Book Award in Nonfiction.

Isabel Allende reads from 'Inés of My Soul'

Internationally celebrated author Isabel Allende read fom "Inés of My Soul," her latest work of historical fiction, on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006 at Town Hall. This Seattle Public Library program was part of a series honoring Hispanic heritage.

Seattle poet Madeline DeFrees celebrates her 87th birthday

Award-winning Seattle poet Madeline DeFrees read from "Spectral Waves: New & Uncollected Poems," her recently published eighth book of poetry, on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at The Central Library. Joining DeFrees were poets Thomas Aslin and Gary Thompson.

The Library, City Council President Nick Licata and Bumbershoot presented a "Candidates Read-Off" for 2006 - 2007 Seattle Poet Populist on Sunday, July 16, 2006, at the Central Library. Seven nominated poets - Anna Maria Hong, Lynn Coffin, John Burgess, Joannie Kervran Strangeland, Jourdan Keith, Barbara Petite and Crysta Casey - read from their work.

An Evening with Marjane Satrapi

Marjane Satrapi spoke at Town Hall on June 2, 2006, as part of the 2006 "Seattle Reads" series. She discussed her book "Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood," a wise, funny, and heartbreaking memoir of growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution.
