The Seattle Public Library adds Science Resource Center, Corbis Images for Education to collection of online databases
The Seattle Public Library has added two new resources to its collection of online databases: Science Resource Center and Corbis Images for Education.
Science Resource Center includes more than 30 electronic reference titles, including Gale Encyclopedia of Science (3rd edition), Macmillan Science Library, U-X-L Encyclopedia of Science and Experiment Central. It also includes 150 periodicals, ranging from general audience magazines to academic journals. The resource includes thousands of pictures and illustrations.
Corbis Images for Education is a new database containing approximately 400,000 images. These include more than 200,000 images from the renowned Bettmann Archive, 10,000 from Corbis' Fine Art Collection and tens of thousands from Corbis' nature, science, space and various commercial stock collections. These images are available for download and use in classrooms.
The Library's collection of online resources includes more than 50 databases. Other recent additions include Consumers' Checkbook, a regularly updated collection of evaluations of Puget Sound-area businesses, and Informe!, an index of full-text Spanish-language materials. Also in the collection are the Oxford English Dictionary, Britannica Online and Learntest.com.
"Patrons might be surprised at the amount of information available to them online from the Library's Web site," said Rachel Martin, electronic resource librarian at the Central Library.
Patrons with their Library cards and PIN numbers can access these resources by visiting the Library's Web site at www.spl.org and clicking "Databases & Web Sites."
