Library closed Dec. 24 and 25
All locations of The Seattle Public Library and the book drops at the Central Library will be closed on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Christmas Day Thursday, Dec. 25.
Service interruption in the Library's Online Catalog - Jan. 1
Between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, the Library will be upgrading its electrical power system. During the upgrade, you will be able to search the catalog, but won't be able to log in, place holds, renew items or use other catalog features. The former Library catalog (Horizon Information Portal) will not be available at all. SPL Mobile, access to e-books, free music downloads and many databases and applications also will be unavailable.
Linda Braun joins The Seattle Public Library as manager of youth services
Capitol Hill resident Linda Braun has joined The Seattle Public Library as the manager of youth services.
Braun is responsible for coordinating systemwide services for children, teens and families. The position involves close collaboration with schools, government agencies, and other service providers who support early learning and student success.
Braun has owned and operated her own training and consulting business called (LEO) Librarians & Educators Online for 17 years and teaches online courses in school web technology and young adult literature for the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Simmons College.
She received the Web-based Information Science Education (WISE) Excellence in Online Teaching Award in 2008, 2009, and 2010, and is past president of the Young Adult Library Services Association. She is the author of several books on services for teens.
She has a master's of science degree in library and information science from Simmons College and a master's of education degree from Lesley University.
