Library closed Dec. 24 and 25

All locations of The Seattle Public Library and the book drops at the Central Library will be closed on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Christmas Day Thursday, Dec. 25.

 

Service interruption in the Library's Online Catalog - Jan. 1

Between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1,  the Library will be upgrading its electrical power system. During the upgrade, you will be able to search the catalog, but won't be able to log in, place holds, renew items or use other catalog features. The former Library catalog (Horizon Information Portal) will not be available at all. SPL Mobile, access to e-books, free music downloads and many databases and applications also will be unavailable.

Vicki Halper and Lawrence Fong discuss 'Morris Graves: Selected Letters' March 24 at The Seattle Public Library

"Morris Graves: Selected Letters"

Vicki Halper and Lawrence Fong will discuss "Morris Graves: Selected Letters" from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 24 at The Seattle Public Library, Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 4, Washington Mutual Foundation Meeting Room 1.

 

Library events are free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Parking is available in the Central Library garage for $6 on weekends.

 

"Morris Graves: Selected Letters" is a collection of letters written by Morris Graves, a Pacific Northwest painter well known for paintings influenced by Japanese aesthetics and Asian philosophy.

 

Halper is a noted curator of American crafts and co-editor of "Choosing Craft: The Artist's Viewpoint." She is former associate curator of modern art at the Seattle Art Museum and curatorial fellow of the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Institution.

 

Fong is curator of American and regional art at the University of Oregon's Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

 

This event is presented in partnership with The Elliott Bay Book Co. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
