Levy funding for open hours:

 

$26.9 million (about $3.8 million annually) 22% of levy

 

  • Restores 6,551 open hours per year
  • Eliminates annual one-week shutdown of entire Library system
  • Adds Sunday hours to 15 branches
  • Restores seven-day-a-week service at the Columbia and Northgate branches
  • Restores on-site reference staff at eight branches
  • Restores 1,613 hours each week of free Internet access, systemwide
  • Addresses cuts in the 2013 budget
  • Adds Central Library staff to assist with computer literacy
  • Increases security staff
  • Adds a librarian in the popular Seattle Room at the Central Library

Mayor Mike McGinn and Councilmember Richard Conlin joined City Librarian Marcellus Turner on Jan. 6 to celebrate extended hours at the Columbia Branch thanks to the August 2012 passage of the Library levy.
