Library Closed Monday, Feb. 15

All locations of The Seattle Public Library and the book drops at the Central Library will be closed on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 15.

Possible service interruption in online Library services Feb. 13 - 14

The Library will be performing maintenance on our network. While we are not expecting service interruptions during this period, there might be brief interruptions in online services. You will be able to search the Bibliocommons catalog, but may not be able to log in, place holds, renew items or use other catalog features. The former Library catalog (Horizon Information Portal) may experience outages as well. SPL Mobile, access to e-books, free music downloads and many databases and applications also may be affected.

Capital Budget Reductions

The 2010 capital budget for the Library is $1,031,000, down 37 percent from the 2009 adopted budget of $1,646,000. Endorsed capital budgets across all departments were reduced due to a 45 percent drop in real estate excise tax revenue.

The Library's capital budget pays for major maintenance - projects with scopes of work that go beyond what the Library's building maintenance workers are able to undertake.

The Library will focus on high priority projects that preserve building integrity and improve functionality.

In order to maintain a viable capital program and prevent deterioration of the heavily used libraries, it will be essential to restore the capital budget to a sustainable level by 2011.
